Since a few weeks I started to work with a new camera kit: the famous Olympus PEN E-PL7. In social media there is so much buzz about the camera being the ultimate Blogger camera. Of course I was curious what’s the secret of this little system camera? Could it really be better, than my expensive DSLR? And I can honestly say the little beauty is just as good as a DSLR. And this is what I appreciate the most on it:

Changeable lenses: The standart kit comes along either with a 14-42mm 3.5-5.6 zoom lens or with a   14-42mm 3.5-5.6 Pancake zoom lens. Due to its wide angles these lenses are perfect for the daily use and on travel. For optimising outfit photos – as you may know, they look great when shot with a strong-light lens with fixed focal length – Olympus offers the 45mm, which does these “blurry backgrounds”. Unfortunately I didn’t had the chance yet to try this lens, but I will and I’ll keep you updated about it.

It’s super compact: As already mentioned in a previous article about the Olympus PEN E-PL7 I find it very inconvenient to carry around my DSLR with the huge and heavy lens (especially on city trips). Since I always take the laptop and the camera in the hand luggage when flying, my bag is alway so heavy and full crammed. So I’m already looking forward to my next flight to Stockholm when, for once, my hand luggage is light and comfortable to wear haha.

Flip down screen: Perfect for taking selfies and making videos.

WiFi function: This one is definitely my favorite function and super easy to use and install. You simply have to download the Olympus smartphone app, connect it with your phone and with one touch you can view all the photos you took with the camera and transfer them directly to your smartphone. So as it seems, the times of loading the photos from the camera to the computer and back to the smartphone are definitely over!

HD Video: Unfortunately I didn’t had the chance/time yet to test this function, but I already planned something for Australia. But I only heard/ read good things about the video function in other reviews. I’ll let you know!

Appearance: In my opinion this little camera is currently the most beautiful on the market! She comes in three different colors: white, silver and black. Even if I’m actually a total black lover, the white one stole my heart. And also how it appears in its retro look of it, just so cute and stylish don’t you think?

I’m pretty sure, not let’s say I’m convinced the Olympus PEN E-PL7 was designed for bloggers. It offers everything a bloggers heart could wish for: compatibility, high-qulity photos, changeable lenses, a stylish appearance, different filter functions and a lot of other features.

Btw: I got a BIG surprise for you! With the code VanessaPEN you will get the Olympus PEN E-PL7 with the pancake lens for 399 CHF instead of 799 CHF! Almost 50% off compared to the recommended retail price! (offer valid on the 27.11 and 28.11.2015)

I keep hearing about this camera and it sounds great! I love that it’s so small! I love that it has the instant viewing option. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves, taking pics and getting all the way home only to find out that they didn’t come out right.

Question – Can you shoot in Aperture value? If so, what’s the lowest that it goes?

Thanks but not. Pen is not better than DSLR. Maybe in comparison with the basic DSLRs which are under the PEN price range, ok. But definitely not in comparison with DSLR in or slightly above PEN price range. PEN is very bad in dark or low light conditions, very often it has not such bright colors etc. Pen is good for some trips you do not want to carry DSLR..but to be honest, rather buy Canon D100 .. same price, almost same size but much much better quality.

Did you already work with the PEN :)? I didn’t use a lower Price DSLR, it was the Nikon D5200 with a 85mm 1.4g lens.. actually pretty expensive. I’m very curious about the 45mm lens from Olympus. I only heard good about the Outfit photos quality taken with this lens. I’ll surely write another Review, as soon as I made my experiences with that lens. So if you should be curious, pass by another time 🙂
      Have a nice day Michael

This seems like a good value to grab when traveling! I agree, my bag weighs a TON during fashion week because of the laptop and huge DSLR. I love the idea of taking this to shows but I really wish the f-stop values would go lower for dimmer indoor environments though!
